Did President Louis Rodrigues take a retirement package?
I am happy to report that our president Louis Rodrigues will not be retiring any time soon. Louis wants to continue his union work for at least the next three years. He is on a leave from the hospital, as many of you are aware his chef position in the kitchen has been eliminated, if he were to decide to return to work at the hospital, the hospital would assign him into a position as per the collective agreement. KGH pays Louis salary. KGH bills CUPE Local 1974 for his wages. In turn, if Louis works a day for Ontario Council of Hospital Unions (OCHU) the local bills OCHU for Louis wages. Louis is elected as Area 5 (Kingston-Ottawa) Vice-President of OCHU, as well as 1st Vice President of all of OCHU. Therefore, Louis does not require any credentials from KGH or CUPE Local 1974 in order to carry on his important union work. The Ontario Council of hospitals Union is a part of CUPE. OCHU bargains our collective agreement centrally with Ontario Hospital Association. OCHU also brings campaigns important to hospital workers around the province. The last campaign Louis was involved in was the importance of public service workers using proper cleaning methods to clean hospital rooms trying to defeat super-bugs.
